12K challenge helps Kettering children’s ward

Travel to New Zealand may have been affected by border closure due to the pandemic but the young players and their families at Kettering RFC decided to walk, run, cycle or swim the 11,745 miles from their Waverely Road ground to fundraise and provide toys, games and equipment for youngsters cared for on the Skylark Ward at Kettering General Hospital.

They actually covered more than 12,000 miles and raised £1,000 which they presented to the hospital to help with their wish list.

"It was a magnificent effort from many of our families and will help children experiencing a stay in hospital," said Wes Easter, the club’s U12s manager and first aid coordinator.

"It’s a great local cause and great to see our players making a big effort, supported by families, friends and local businesses."
