Player Welfare
RugbySafe is the England Rugby overarching player safety and wellbeing programme. It puts player welfare at the heart of the game, so you as a player can enjoy your rugby in a safe environment, receive best practice coaching and know there is appropriate first aid provision and support in place if ever needed.
We know that prevention is better than cure. As a player, you have a responsibility to look after your own and other player's welfare and safety. The RugbySafe toolkits provide information and guidance on the main player welfare and safety topics. There is loads of useful information for players including playing with different medical conditions and what protective equipment is allowed. As a player it's important you are aware of:
HEADCASE – Our concussion awareness initiative, this will help you understand what concussion is, how to recognise it in yourself or other players and the importance of taking time to recover properly.
Activate – A warm-up exercise programme that has been proven to improve functional and core strength, balance and agility, helping you prepare for the physical demands of the game. It can also reduce your risk of injury including concussion.
Mental Wellbeing - Information and guidance on mental wellbeing and where you can go to get support if you need it.
Women & Girl's Health - Information and guidance on the main health and wellbeing issues that female athletes face when playing rugby.
