A family affair for Egham
Cary Depel has stepped onto the rugby field many times for many different teams over his career, but when Egham Hollowegians played Farnborough RUFC, it was the first time he had stepped out with all three of his sons.

In their 24 – 15 victory away at Farnborough, the team had Cary playing in the backrow with his sons Charlie, Henry and Toby playing alongside him. All the family were integral to the team’s victory, with Toby and Charlie scoring tries and Henry proving himself as the ultimate utility player, playing at No 8, blindside flanker, inside centre and tighthead prop at various points throughout the game.

Cary is a longtime member of Egham Hollowegians. He joined the club as 1st XV captain ten years ago, having previously played at Belsize Park, Honourable Artillery Company RFC and Old Alleynians. He later became club captain at Egham and still plays regularly for their 1st XV.
“It was great playing with all three of the boys. When they were little, we would go out and throw ball around all together. We’re very competitive with each other! We used to have running races and I’d handicap myself, so I’d have to run really hard to try and pass them. Now, I should probably start ahead of them!” said Cary.
