Alcester’s great season on and off the pitch

Alcester RFC in Warwickshire have been celebrating a great season, having earned promotion to the Counties 1 Midlands West (South) Division, the highest level in their 64-year history.

The season saw the 1st XV lose just two games, amassing 694 points to secure their promotion. The club also has a thriving Mini and Junior section, with over 200 players representing the club, covering all school years Reception through to year 13.

The standout age group for the 2022/23 season was Alcester U16s who, like the adults, were only beaten twice through the season, with their biggest success coming at a Bromyard’s rugby 7s tournament when they won all eight of their matches.

U16s coach Shaun Nash said: “I’m super proud of the effort every one of them put in. These are the days that we as coaches get paid back.”

Alcester RFC recently marked the career of club stalwart Robbie Parker with an inter-club friendly between the Colts and Second XV in the Robbie Parker Cup. He started out in the Alcester Colts, and ending his playing career with the seconds, who won the match 34-22 at Kings Coughton.

As the season winds down, the club is still a hive of activity as they host summer activities that are open to everyone (non-club members included). The club has recently refurbished the bar and lounge and are gearing up for a series of sell out comedy nights and a summer music festival in July.

Alcester continue to grow their membership and remain keen to develop players across all age groups. Anyone interested in joining can contact Tom Burgess (arfcdor@gmail.com) or Zoe New (arfcmandjfixtures@gmail.com)
