Billy’s a 300-cap wonder
Billy Humphrey, whose first ever rugby was as part of Medway RFC’s Under Sevens, has now amassed 300 caps for their First XV, having played in their front row since 2006.
Not a bad tally for a front-row forward who joined the club in 1994, played through the mini and youth sides and represented Kent as a teenager.
Not only is he still turning out every week for the first team, but he is also reliving his early rugby days as the head coach of the club’s U7s, where his son Zac plays.
Life off the pitch sees Billy putting in the hours with his own heating engineer business, but he is renowned for not missing twice-weekly training and matches. For Billy the club’s ambition of getting to the top of London 1 South is his ambition too.
The squad not having lost a match at home all season, the big game versus top of the table London Welsh was attracting a sizeable crowd at Prestfields Recreation Ground.
Said club chair Tracy Bullock: “Billy is a real character and a fabulous guy to have around the club. He’s just who you need as a club player, always there, very dedicated and a real inspiration to the rest, especially younger players. It’s great to see Zac following in his bootsteps!”
