Colts Development Programme for Dorking
Dorking Rugby Club in Surrey, due to open impressive new facilities for the 2021-22 season, is launching a Colts Development Programme, building on their Youth Development Programme which began in 2016, with the support of the John Douglas Youth Development Fund, to provide mid-week youth player development opportunities.
Despite the disruption caused by the pandemic, Dorking have seen more than 120 youth players sign up to receive coaching from qualified external coaches, guest coaches and 1st XV players. With their new gym and medical rehabilitation centre launched on 1st June 2021, the new programme will support players as they transition into senior rugby.
Managed by Director of Rugby, Armand Roux, and Youth Transition Manager, Benji Wroblewski supported by Colts Head Coach Dom Brockes, the programme’s day-to-day operations will come under resident gym manager Daniel Mackenzie, who worked with Super A League clubs in South Africa as a Strength & Conditioning coach for Springbok international camps and programmes. He will be supported by former England 7s and Premiership player Cameron Cowell and Hong Kong and Premiership player, Thomas Bristow. Both Cameron and Thomas played for Dorking as 18-year-olds.
Said Armand Roux: “As a club, we have always pushed the boundaries to ensure we look after our own players and provide them with the best quality coaching, support and development opportunities. This is a clear extension of that approach and with our medical and gym facility we are in pole position to deliver great results. It is fantastic to have Cam and Tom joining the programme and with the exceptional support and extensive experience of Daniel Mackenzie, I can truly say that we have got a great team to help develop our Colts. Exciting times ahead.”
The Colts Development Programme launches on Monday 2nd August 2021 for the 21-22 season.
