Staying clean in quarantine

England rugby stars Tom Curry and George Furbank have thrown their support behind this year’s Clean Sport Week.

The campaign from UK Anti-Doping (UKAD) aims to educate people on the dangers of performance-enhancing drugs in sport at all levels.

Taking place from18-24 May, this year focuses on staying clean in quarantine, given the restrictions on people’s movement during the COVID-19 pandemic.

A number of online events are planned to increase awareness and two of our England players have joined in.

Back-row forward, Curry said: “Performance enhancing drugs should play no part in our sport. As players we need to uphold the values of our sport and help keep the game clean.”

Furbank, who made his senior debut in this year’s Guinness Six Nations added: “There is no place for drug taking in the game of rugby union at all levels, help keep our game clean.”

The campaign is being supported by a number of national governing bodies, sports organisations and stars.

Nicole Sapstead, UKAD’s Chief Executive, said: “The Covid-19 crisis has impacted sport on many levels, but our Clean in Quarantine campaign is highlighting ways that athletes and coaches can maintain their commitment to clean sport during lockdown.

“UKAD’s free education resources are vital tools in maintaining integrity and public confidence in sport when it returns. We’re calling on athletes and coaches to access the information they need to protect themselves and clean sport.”
