Grassroots teams of January announced

January's grassroots teams of the month have been confirmed using Electronic Match Card data.

This season England Rugby is celebrating players and teams from across the leagues using Electronic Match Card data to bring statistics from the community game to life. 

Electronic Match Card allows everything from tries and points scored to best defensive performance and kick percentage records to be viewed for every team from level three to 12. Find out more here.

Player of the Month

Morgan Thomspon – Old Albanian  

Scrum half Morgan Thompson has been in fine form for the St Albans club in January returning a league high of 52 points. Not only is he the team's leading try scorer, he also boasts a 100% record from the tee, converting 17 tries and one penalty. As a result, OA’s have won three out of their four fixtures in January, the only blemish a one point defeat at home to Taunton last time out.

Level 3/4 - Redruth RFC

Redruth – National 2 South

Four wins from four games, taking 19 points from 20 available sees Redruth sitting fourth in National 2 South, just seven points off the promotion places. Home wins against mid-table Worthing and table toppers at the time Henley built the foundations for a solid month on the field. They travelled to Dings and Barnes again returning victorious. Fly half Fraser Honey has contributed 46 points through the course of January. Outside back Matthew Shepherd is top try scorer for the month with three. The standout fixture for February sees Redruth host new leaders Tonbridge Juddians.

Level 5 - Rochford Hundred RFC

Rochford Hundred – London Premier

Rochford Hundred now lead the pack in the hotly contested battle for promotion in London & SE Premier. Four wins from four in January, including a notable away victory to previous leaders Guernsey. They open up February hosting third place Wimbledon, in a match that could go a long way in deciding who is top of the table come April.

Level 6 - Havant RFC

Havant – London 1 South

Havant got January off to a flyer, winning all four games which has leapfrogged them to the top of London 1 South. Wins over fourth and fifth placed Medway and Cobham finished off a great month for the south coast team. February includes some tough away trips, but also a mouth-watering home clash against third place Camberley.

Level 7 - Wolverhampton RUFC

Wolverhampton – Midland 2 West (North)

Wolverhampton top the table by 10 points in Midlands 2 West, and won all four games in January with a maximum of 20 points achieved. They will look to further cement their position at the top of the table in February and travel to second place Stafford on Valentines weekend.

Level 8 - Gosford All Blacks

Gosford All Blacks – Wadworth Berks/Bucks & Oxon Premier

Four from four for the All Blacks in January, sees them sitting pretty at the top of Wadworth Premier by three points. They travel to fourth place Abingdon and host second place Chipping Norton in late February which could play a big factor in the promotion race.

Levels 9-12 - Chesterfield Panthers

Chesterfield Panthers – Midland 4 East (North)

Chesterfield have had a big month in January and now sit fifth in the league just 11 points off the top two. They have only conceded 25 points across their four games.

Women's Level 2-3 - Birmingham Moseley

Birmingham Moseley – Women’s Championship Midlands 2

Three from three for the ladies from Moseley in January sees them close the gap on second place to just three points. Two impressive home victories and big win on the road were the foundations of a great month.

Women's Level 4-6 - North Bristol

North Bristol – Women’s NC 2 South West (North)

Four from four for North Bristol ladies in January now sees them top of the table by four points, although having played a game more than their nearest challengers. In their final game of the month they recorded an impressive 47-0 victory over fourth place Chipping Sodbury.
