Havant Light Up Rugby Return
Straight off the blocks with the end of the lockdown in sight, Havant RFC have organised a 10-a-side mixed touch tournament involving their Academy, women, girls U18 and boys U16 players.
Stephen Woolcombe, Academy Head Coach, says the event on their RFU 365 Artificial Grass Pitch under floodlights, aims to showcase the club, support the community and create a great sense of togetherness.
The Academy ran the first covid-safe training and match and has acted as a benchmark as club Director of Rugby, Rob Matthews, held Zoom meetings with all the coaches to share best practice and keep everyone protected from the virus.
Says Stephen: “We ran an event on the AGP for the Academy players and one of the parents said the atmosphere was so great you could almost imagine there wasn’t a global pandemic. That was the inspiration for the tournament, planned for Friday 4 December.
“It will be our first event post the lockdown and will highlight the rugby available at Havant and feed into what we all hope for, a return to normality. We have great facilities, great players and events on the 365 AGP under lights have proved fantastic.”
