Make a difference by joining the RFU’s National Youth Council
For rugby union to thrive across England it’s essential for the RFU to hear and react to the views of young people involved.
The RFU’s National Youth Council gives young people a voice so that they can make their views heard in the decision-making process. Considering relevant issues, engaging with decision makers and contributing to improving the lives of young people within the game, the National Youth Council (NYC) is currently recruiting for several new members to join and make an impact.
Members are aged from 18 to 24, and as well as offering perspective on England’s young players, volunteers and fans, are actively involved on RFU sub-committees and working groups and help to identify and develop projects which will have a lasting impact on the growth of the game and youth representation.
Kirsten Flower, is a member of the Diversity & Inclusion Implementation Council Working Group. She says: “We really want to help the RFU’s drive for diversity and to ensure that rugby really is a sport for everyone. This is a particular focus for my generation, and I believe that’s why we can offer insight and help to bring young people’s experience of any barriers or negative experiences encountered in sport in general and how best to grow the game to include all.”
The NYC welcomes applications and roles will include joining a number of sub-committees; among them the Club & CB Sub-committee, Education & Age-Grade and Player Development, all of which offer the chance to both help rugby flourish and develop an impressive CV.
The NYC is looking for outstanding applicants who are passionate about rugby and making a difference. They will have the creativity and drive to take forward ideas and projects. Through serving on the NYC they will be able to take their volunteering to the next level by developing personal and professional skills and working as part of a team.
Opportunities that come with the role
The NYC role comes with the chance to develop valuable skills, gain access to a mentor and shape the future development of rugby.
The National Youth Council meets at least four times a year, with a mixture of virtual and face to face meetings, interspersed with ongoing projects and sub-committee meetings. Members need to be available for meetings, as well as playing active roles in the development and completion of identified projects.
