Mike Davis
The Rugby Football Union has paid tribute to Mike Davis, the former England lock and coach, who has died, aged 80.
Mike was born in Lichfield and was capped 16 times between 1963-70 but is also remembered as coach to the 1980 Grand Slam-winning England team.
He went to Torquay Grammar School, then to St Luke’s, and played for St Luke’s, Devonport Services and Harlequins. He also played for Devon, Staffordshire, Royal Navy and United Services.
He taught at Haileybury and St Paul’s before moving to Sherborne, the school with which he formed a long attachment. He leaves his wife, Jenny, daughter, Jo, and twin sons, Simon and Peter.
