Mitsubishi Motors Volunteer of the Year nominees announced
Nominees for the Mitsubishi Motors Volunteer of the Year have been confirmed, ahead of the virtual award night this Friday.
The Mitsubishi Motors Volunteer Recognition Programme gives grassroots rugby clubs a unique opportunity to recognise the volunteers across the country who make up an integral part of the game.
This is the fourth year of the Mitsubishi Motors Volunteer awards. There are 45 nominees in this final, and here are the stories of just a few:
Katie Lashbrook - Ruislip RFC
Katie Lashbrook, team manager at Ruislip RFC Ladies has been recognised for her phenomenal work starting a women’s team from scratch in September 2019 and growing it into a diverse, 40-strong squad. Katie single-handedly managed the organising, recruitment, kit ordering and fundraising of the team.
Alan Barnett - Oxford RFC
Alan Barnett has been recognised for his tireless work at Oxford RFC that saw him set up the club’s first Special Educational Needs or Disabilities team. Alan pioneered the development of the SEND team, having already picked up a local award.
Barbara Crellin - Oakham RFC
Barbara Crellin has been recognised for her tireless work in the resurrection and growth of the girls’ section at Oakham, which has provided opportunities for youngsters across Rutland to learn and enjoy the game. Barbara, who combines a variety of responsibilities at Oakham with her role as Leicestershire RFU president, has given her time to the club across four decades.
Den Plaistow – Wortley RUFC
Den Plaistow is the Junior Chairman at Wortley and has been recognised for his selfless work embodying and promoting the club’s ethos: ‘everybody plays’. Den has nurtured a dedicated team of volunteers alongside enhancing junior participation by thirty percent.
Emma Nebel - Crewkerne RFC
Emma Nebel has been the driving force behind the newly-formed Crewkerne Ladies team. Emma began by organising taster sessions with club and RFU coaches.
