RFU launches digital wall of remembrance

To remember those cherished members of the rugby family we have lost.

During recent times it has not been possible to mourn the deaths or celebrate the lives of much-loved members of the rugby family.

Without clubhouse gatherings to say thank you and farewell, or teams and club members able to be at funerals, the RFU has created a digital Wall of Remembrance for all those special people that we have lost and who have given so much to our sport.

This is a place where everyone can be recognised and remembered, whether players, supporters, volunteers, anyone and everyone who formed part of our rugby family.

To request an addition to the wall of remembrance, you need to fill in this application form.

As part of the request, you will need to provide the following:

  • The name of the person to be remembered
  • The club they were associated with (in any capacity)
  • Year of birth and death
  • A short message of up to 200 characters about them
  • A photo - if possible, use a photo where no one else is present and they are shown from the waist up

Sergeant Matt Ratana of East Grinstead RFC is one of those remembered on the digital wall of remembrance.

Said RFU President Jeff Blackett: “In these most challenging of times, one huge sadness has been the inability to  be there with family and friends of those we have lost.

"I am very aware of the comfort that comes from seeing just how much they were loved, respected and appreciated.

"I hope that this Wall of Remembrance can make a small difference and that families and the rugby family will give us pictures and details with which to remember everyone who has represented our sport and its values.”
