Rhino Reward Richmond’s Community Spirit

The Rhino Grassroots Rugby Award has been chosen to reward a club in recognition of its community work during the pandemic.

Richmond Rugby lifted the award, having continued to deliver meals to schoolchildren during the holidays, as well as supporting their local community.

Head of Community Rugby Dom Palacio accepted the award on behalf of the club from Rhino CEO Reg Clark and said: “We are delighted to receive this recognition. I’m very proud of the work my team has done in delivering meals to schoolchildren in holidays and in collecting essentials for public distribution during the pandemic, in addition to keeping our junior and mini rugby sections going to the best of our ability.”

Reg Clark added:  “In a sense Richmond are representing every rugby club in the UK and beyond that has shown the true spirit of rugby during the pandemic by reaching out to their community in these difficult times.  In a year of very high quality nominations they are very worth winners.”

The Award judges placed the pioneering Rugby Opens Borders project in runners-up place in recognition of their efforts to use rugby to reach out to and support the refugee community in Austria in recent years.
