Rugby’s pandemic response to be recognised in volunteer awards
The challenges facing rugby clubs and the way that many have met them and made a big difference to those most in need in their community during the pandemic will be recognised in the 2021 Mitsubishi Motors Volunteer of the Year awards. Nominations can be made up to midnight on Sunday 2nd May.
Reflecting the challenges clubs have faced, and recognising the outstanding contribution made, this year’s national awards for either an individual, or a team of volunteers within the community game, focus on three categories:
- Resilience in Rugby Volunteer Award
- Beyond Rugby Volunteer Award
- Diversity & Inclusion Volunteer Award
Said RFU CEO Bill Sweeney: “I have been incredibly impressed and proud to see the way the rugby family has risen to the challenges of Covid-19. At the heart of their communities, our clubs have helped the NHS, the vulnerable, the isolated, struggling charities, all while looking after the wellbeing of their own members and working to secure the future of their clubs.
“It has been truly inspiring and I hope many are nominated for these Mitsubishi Motors awards, designed especially to recognise their extraordinary efforts over many months.”
Nominations for those in the community game who have gone above and beyond over the course of the pandemic will see volunteers thanked for their contribution to the game and beyond. Finalists will be invited to an awards ceremony in the summer, where the winners of each category will be announced.
In the recent UK Sponsorship 2021 Awards, partnered by The Sport & Recreation Alliance, the Mitsubishi Motors Volunteer Recognition programme was the winner of the Grassroots Sports Sponsorship Award.
