Hunter & Barnes nominated for Rugby Writers' Award
Red Roses captain Sarah Hunter and referee Wayne Barnes have been nominated for the Rugby Union Writers’ Club Personality of the Year for 2022.
Hunter became England’s most capped international last year when surpassing Rocky Clark’s 137 Tests, as she led England on a 30-game winning run that ended in defeat to New Zealand in the Rugby World Cup final.
If Hunter wins the vote, she will become the third woman to do so, following in the footsteps of Maggie Alphonsi and Emily Scarratt.
Last year was a special year for Barnes too, who became just the second referee to oversee 100 Test matches, joining Nigel Owens.
The Pat Marshall Memorial Award has been presented every year since its inception in 1976, and is currently held by France scrum half Antonie Dupont.
