SOS Kit Aid sends rugby kit to Ukraine
A year after the Russian invasion, SOS Kit Aid has sent 1.4 tonnes of quality rugby kit to Lviv in Ukraine
Lviv has become a refuge for thousands fleeing the war as it is considered one of the relatively safer parts of Ukraine, at the opposite end of the country from the eastern front. It has, however, been hit by Russian strikes a number of times, affecting critical infrastructure
Said John Broadfoot, CEO of SOS Kit Aid: “The Ukrainian Rugby Federation want to restart junior rugby and take people's minds back to the normality which existed before the war and they approached us for kit. Having worked with them in the past, and being acutely aware of the situation there, we were very keen to help. This was made possible thanks to World Rugby’s generous support, not only of SOS Kit Aid itself but also in them directly part sponsoring this huge delivery of quality rugby kit.
“SOS Kit Aid is working closely with the wishes of the Ukrainian Rugby Federation. Once in Lviv the kit will be split, and half will go onwards to another Ukrainian hotbed of rugby, Odessa in Southern Ukraine. Tracksuit tops and bottoms will also be useful in helping to keep young Ukrainians warm during the night.
“ SOS is delighted to be able to help and there will be another similar delivery in August.”
A special kit collection for Ukraine will take place at the Rosslyn Park Sevens starting on the 20th March when boots will be especially welcome at the Halbro Stand. Halbro are offering a special discount of 25% off new kit orders for any sizeable contributions.
