Tom’s Legacy for Oddballs Foundation

Tom Miller played fly half or inside centre for Nottingham Trent University and, having achieved a Business degree, was about to start studying for a Finance and Investment Banking Masters. He was a talented rugby player and a dedicated ambassador for Oddballs, the charity raising awareness of testicular cancer and helping to save lives.

It was a huge shock when Tom lost his life after sustaining a head injury in an accident in Nottingham earlier this month (December). A just giving page raising funds for Oddballs in Tom’s name was set up. The Remembering Tom site raised more than £30,000 from more than 1,000 people within days.

Tom took every opportunity to speak to teenage school students to raise awareness and break the stigma of talking about testicular cancer. Messages on the justgiving page speak of the esteem in which Tom was held, what an outstanding team mate he was and of how much he will be missed.

Tom loved rugby, having played from a young age at Colchester RFC and then at Royal Hospital School. He deferred his start at Nottingham Trent for a year to play in National 3 at Colchester and, during a year’s placement in industry, he played for Worthing RFC. He planned on playing well after his Masters, and would doubtless have carried on at a high level.

Tom’s mother Emily posted that his family have been “overwhelmed, grateful and humbled” by the just giving response.
