Wimborne winner

This Wimborne scrum half's send-off couldn’t have gone much better.

Wimborne scrum half, Jason Llewellyn, joined the Dorset club aged 12 and was playing his final game after 34 consecutive years in the club’s black shirt.

Not only did he score a try against Salisbury in the Dorset & Wilts Cup Final but his points contributed to the team’s 27- 10 title victory.

Played at Swanage & Wareham RFC, there was much for Wimborne to celebrate as their captain Ryan Maidment, lifted the trophy, not least Jason’s years of dedication to the club.

Little big man

Andy Dobson, Wimborne’s former First XV captain said: “Jason is an absolute star. He played all his rugby at the club, came up through the mini and youth and moved from Colts to the first team when I was captain.

“We always call him the little big man because he’s not much more than 5ft but he’s got a big heart and has a big input in the game. I coached him after I stopped playing and the best word to describe his game was tenacious. He was a typical scrum half, loved a bit of fun in training, playing jokes on people and always trying to get away with something!

“The performance from the whole Wimborne team in the Cup final was outstanding and to see Jason score a try was a fitting end of his playing career, if he really is hanging up his boots.”
