Reaction to England's 10-try victory over Wales

Hear from England captain Maro Itoje, player of the match Ben Curry and head coach Steve Borthwick, as well as try scorer Tom Roebuck following England’s 14-68 victory over Wales in the 2025 Guinness Men’s Six Nations.

Itoje opened the scoring after just two minutes and in his first campaign as captain has led his team to a second-place finish as they were narrowly beaten to the Six Nations title by France.

Under his leadership, the team have lost just once, against Ireland, and they were rewarded by a dominant performance in Cardiff.

“We've been building towards this and in each game we've shown a different side of us and we're just happy to finish it well,” said Itoje.

“You have to be consistent even when results aren't going your way. I applaud the team because even when results weren't going our way and we were getting outside noise, we kept being consistent.

“The challenge for our team is to continue to grow and get better. Whether we get praise or scrutiny, it doesn't matter, let's just stay consistent.

“It's been an absolute honour and privilege to captain the team. The boys have been absolutely fantastic, they've supported me. All of this isn't me, it's a collective effort: the players, the staff, backroom staff, we've all worked towards this.”

Ben Curry v Wales 2025
Ben Curry was awarded Player of the Match.

With the entire team playing a part in a record Six Nations victory over Wales, flanker Curry stood out across the park and was rewarded by being named player of the match.

Curry, who has had to watch twin brother Tom pull on the Rose, has become an integral part of the squad over the course of the tournament.

“It's what you dream of,” said Curry. “I love being part of this team and I haven't had many opportunities in the last two years, but I've loved coming into camp.

“I love being a part of this team and even lads who aren't playing, unbelievable players, are helping in the week. I think we're still building to something special.”

Another player in the early stages of his England career, Sale Sharks’ Roebuck, had an impressive Six Nations debut and finished well for England’s second try.

Roebuck was part of the team that suffered narrow losses in the Autumn Nations Series, but has witnessed their development first-hand.

“We've been speaking about turning this cycle of tight losses into tight wins into big wins and that was something we wanted to put on show today,” said Roebuck.

“The most prominent word is special. It's a special place, a special stadium and we're a special team. I loved every minute of it.”

Head coach Borthwick was also thrilled with the performance by his young team, especially on behalf of the fans who travelled to the Principality Stadium.

“The team's been progressing,” said Borthwick. “It's a young and evolving team and we challenged them to go out and play with this attitude. We wanted to play big and they did exactly that.

“There were so many England fans there and they were so loud, probably the loudest I've ever heard them in Cardiff, so I'm delighted for them to have plenty to cheer about.”
