Bolton Rugby appoints young leaders to drive their club’s future

Bolton Rugby Club has appointed two of their junior players to the club’s committee in a bid to encourage young players to help shape its future.

Holly Turner will become the new chair of the Women and Girls’ section, assisted by her mum Jo, while Jacob Collinson, supported by his dad Tim, will take on the role of chair for the Mini and Juniors’ section.

The appointments are part of the club’s strategy to empower its young members and help the club's future sustainability.

The club aims to engage with young people, keep its rugby offering fresh, relevant, and challenging, and believes Jacob and Holly’s input will help strengthen its position.

Club Chair, Mark Brocklehurst, said: "What Holly and Jacob lack in leadership experience, they more than make up for in passion and a desire to move the club forward.

“By providing them with a support team that can offer counsel and guidance, we can nurture our young leaders who see things through fresh eyes, unshackled by conventional constraints.

“They are not here to make up numbers. We can expect an ambitious and dynamic future for young people playing rugby at Bolton."

The Mini and Juniors’ and Women and Girls’ sections have seen huge year-on-year growth and now make up the largest part of the club.

Holly currently plays for the U14 Amazons girls’ team and has been at the club since she was six years old.

She said: “It means a lot to me to take on the role at the club. I hope to be able to discuss the hopes and fears of young girls entering rugby and act as a link between them and the club’s committee.

"I’d like to see more girls in the U6-11 teams as well as a full, successful ladies’ team. Just imagine how good it would be to have all-girls teams all ages!”

Jacob, who plays for the Colts, said: “Taking over as chair of Minis and Juniors is a very proud moment for me after being here since I was seven. I hope to be able to carry on in the great direction the club's going with this section, going from strength to strength.”

The appointments mark an exciting step forward for Bolton Rugby Club, highlighting its investment in the future and ensuring that young players remain at the heart of the club’s decision-making.
