England Rugby and Girlguiding join forces across London and the South East

England Rugby and Girlguiding London and South East England have created a rugby opportunity for the Girlguiding network to benefit members across London and the South East.

The partnership introduces the new Love Rugby badge for Rainbows, Brownies, Guides, and Rangers. They can build and develop rugby skills through a series of warm-up activities and games and engage with off-the-pitch activities such as writing a letter to a Red Rose or baking a treat to help boost energy when playing rugby.

Maud Muir, England Rugby Player and former Girl Guide, said: “The skills I learnt during my time as a Girl Guide —teamwork, communication, and being able to express myself—have been invaluable to me throughout my rugby career.

“This partnership is a fantastic opportunity to introduce more girls to the game of rugby, showing them that rugby is a place for them, whilst having fun and learning valuable life skills. I can’t wait to see the next generation of girls completing the Love Rugby badge and being inspired to play rugby in 2025."

There will also be two regional T1 Rugby mega festivals in London and South East England that will see 3,000 Girlguiding members engaging with the sport for the first time.

The partnership comes ahead of the Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025 and hopes to introduce more girls and young women to the sport and accelerate engagement.

Amanda Teasel, Chief Commissioner, Girlguiding London and South East England said: “We're delighted to be working with England Rugby to give our members a wonderful opportunity to experience non-contact rugby against the background of the Women’s World Rugby Cup.

“Non-contact rugby is a game for everyone, played by anyone. It is simple to play and, as well as being lots of fun, it has team spirit at its heart.”
