England U20 Women training squad announced
The squad for the England U20 Women’s February training camp has been confirmed by head coach LJ Lewis and assistant coach Sarah McKenna.
Management have maintained a 32-player selection, including 11 capped players, for the four-day meeting at Loughborough University which commences today (Monday 3rd).
Haineala Lutui of Loughborough Lightning makes the short journey to be added into Lewis’ cohort for the camp. Lutui, previously uncapped at U20 level, attained six U18 caps under the leadership of James Cooper and has played for Loughborough University Women in the BUCS National League.
LJ Lewis can also confirm that Lucy Calladine of Loughborough Lightning has been selected as the England U20 Women’s captain for the 2024/25 season. The 19-year-old hooker has six U20 caps to her name, including three attained in the 2024 Six Nations Women Summer Series. Calladine has represented Lightning in this season’s Premiership Women’s Rugby and PWR Up Series, as well as Loughborough University Women in the BUCS National League alongside Lutui.
The team will be joined by U18 Women’s head coach James Cooper, Benny Williams (Player Development Group Coaching Lead) and RFU Head of Women’s Performance, Charlie Hayter.
England U20 Women will return to camp at Bisham Abbey National Sports Centre for a three-day camp between 27th-29th March. Upcoming fixtures for England U20 Women will be communicated in due course.
LJ Lewis said: “Following on from our January meeting, as a group we want to continue to progress our winning moments in camp in preparation for the upcoming spring block.
“Our aim for this camp is to further implement our tactics of Winning Moments and Space through speed of thought and action under the umbrella of body and ball always moving. Above all else, our main objective is to maintain a high challenge and high support camp environment to elevate our players’ growth.
“I want to congratulate Lucy Calladine on her captaincy. She is a standout character in camp and projects all of our U20 principles especially her application to lead self and be the best rugby player she can be. A big welcome must go to Haineala [Lutui] who has impressed in her pathway career so far.”
