England's Richard Wigglesworth named in British & Irish Lions coaching team

England senior coach Richard Wigglesworth has been named as part of Andy Farrell’s coaching staff for the upcoming British & Irish Lions tour of Australia.

Wigglesworth will join the Lions coaching team as one of five assistant coaches, with the first game of the tour taking place against Argentina in Dublin on Friday 20 June.

“I am delighted to be a part of the Lions and proud is an understatement to how I am feeling right now,” said Wigglesworth.

“I never got to play with Andy, but he was my coach at Saracens and England so I know his calibre and I am thoroughly looking forward to working with him.”

The former England scrum half began coaching in 2019 as Canada’s defence and kicking coach. He was then named as Leicester Tigers’ attack coach while still playing there, before eventually taking on the role as interim head coach of the club.

Wigglesworth is joined by John Dalziel, Simon Easterby, John Fogarty and Andrew Goodman as assistant coaches.

He first joined the England coaching setup in 2023 as part of Steve Borthwick’s staff and recently helped coach the side to a second-placed finish in the 2025 Guinness Men’s Six Nations.

As well as coaching England, Wigglesworth enjoyed a decorated playing career. He began playing professionally at Sale Sharks, before moving to Saracens and finally Leicester Tigers.

He won three European Champions Cups and seven Premiership titles, while also winning 33 international caps and playing at two Rugby World Cups.

“Richard’s inclusion is a well-deserved recognition of his outstanding coaching and the success he’s achieved with England’s attack,” said England head coach Borthwick.

“Being involved in a Lions touring party is a huge honour, and we’re all incredibly proud to see him in Andy’s management team. I have no doubt he’ll continue to inspire and improve those around him in Australia.”
