At the age of just 18 and with only a handful of senior matches under her belt, Ellie scored a try on her England 15s debut when she came off the bench against Canada in the autumn of 2017. Ellie’s rugby career has its roots in rugby league, where growing up in West Yorkshire she started at Keighley Rugby Union Football Club. Ellie’s impressive performances in that inaugural Premier 15s season with Gloucester led to five more Red Roses starts in the 2018 Women’s Six Nations. Ellie made the transition from 15s to sevens in August 2018, having scored nine tries in eight appearances for the Red Roses. Ellie joined Wasps in 2020 and committed her immediate future to XVs and won the 2021 Six Nations. A move to Harlequins followed in 2021. Ellie was part of the Red Roses’ 2021 autumn international squad and won the 2022 Six Nations. She was a key figure in the squad that reached the final of the delayed 2021 Rugby World Cup in New Zealand and won a Six Nations Grand Slam in 2023. Later that year, Ellie featured in the Red Roses squad in their title-winning campaign at the inaugural WXV1 tournament in New Zealand. Recently, Ellie was named in John Mitchell’s squad for the 2024 Guinness Women’s Six Nations.
