Game On

AltText

Not got a full 15? – Every game matters!

Game On is a flexibility in rules, not a change in the game we all love.

Game On works for those teams which, for whatever reason, cannot put out a full 15. Using the different options it allows teams, as long as they have ten players, to get a game. Keeping players returning each week not only helps retain them but also recruits them. 10v10 one week, 11v11 the next; you’ll soon be up to 15-a-side.

Game On is here to help you get the game played, ensuring your players get the game time they crave and be able to spend time at your club.

In the video below, David Flatman gives you all the information you need to understand Game On.

Players continue to tell us they want to play games and not face cancellations which can be frustrating for players.

So how does it work?

Game On as a match can take place as long as each team has a minimum of ten players. In addition, the result will stand as long as it is a minimum of 40 minutes rather than 80.

Game On also allows for both scrums and lineouts to be adapted. For example, for the 22/23 season, scrums can now be either fully contested, have a maximum 1.5 metre push or uncontested. Introducing the 1.5m push means more players can enjoy the parts of the game they love.

Both teams must agree on which option of Game On will apply to the match and notify the referee at least 30 minutes before kick-off. If both teams cannot decide which principles apply, the match will proceed without the application of Game On.

Game On can be applied to all non-RFU leagues and cups and some Counties level leagues. Further information on the latter should be sought from your Regional Organising Committee.
