Northampton Saints scrum half Alex Mitchell had been capped all the way through the England pathway from U16 to U20 before he made his bow at Twickenham Stadium in June 2019 for an England XV against the Barbarians. Alex joined Northampton Saints in 2015 and has continued his progression at the club. The younger brother of former England U20 scrum half James Mitchell, Alex won Northampton's young player of the year award for the 2018/19 season after a series of impressive performances, and he scored 11 tries across the campaign. In January 2020 he was named as an apprentice player for the Guinness Six Nations and went on to make his Test debut in 2021, coming off the bench in during England’s Autumn International fixture against Tonga. He scored on his debut, and England went on to win 69-3. In 2023 Mitchell was called up to Steve Borthwick’s Rugby World Cup squad as an injury replacement for Jack van Poortvliet, and retained his spot ahead of the Guinness Men’s Six Nations 2024. He was recently named in Steve Borthwick's squad for the 2025 Six Nations.
