Farrell's Most Memorable Matches

Owen Farrell is set to make his 100th England appearance against the All Blacks this weekend.

Jason Leonard made his 100th appearance for England against Scotland nearly 20 years ago, Ben Youngs ran out against Italy for his, and Owen Farrell will achieve the milestone in front of a packed Twickenham crowd against New Zealand.

As he approaches the landmark, we take a look back at some of the 31-year-old’s finest moments and most memorable contributions to Test match rugby.

Debut against Scotland

Farrell made his international debut in England’s 13-6 victory over Scotland in the first round of the 2012 Six Nations at Murrayfield. Starting at centre alongside fellow debutant Brad Barritt, he scored two penalties and converted the only try of the game, scored by Charlie Hodgson.

Also making their international debuts for Stuart Lancaster’s England side were Lee Dickson, Phil Dowson, Ben Morgan, Geoff Parling and Jordan Turner-Hall.

Six Nations Grand Slam

England’s 2016 Grand Slam campaign was their 13th since the Championship began back in 1908, and their first since Martin Johnson captained the side to the title in 2003.

In their final game of the Championship against France in Paris, Farrell kicked two conversions and four penalties for a total of 16 points, overtaking Paul Grayson as England’s second-highest points scorer in history, behind only Jonny Wilkinson.

50 Not Out

Farrell marked the occasion of his 50th cap with a victory over Italy at Twickenham in the 2017 Six Nations Championship. Conor O’Shea’s Italian side made it difficult work for the Englishmen, who came back from 5-10 at half time to win 36-15.

He scored three conversions in the game as Dan Cole, Danny Care and Elliot Daly each crossed for tries, while Jack Nowell scored a brace in the second half.

Taming the All Blacks

A Farrell-led England side ran rampant during the semi final of the 2019 Rugby World Cup, dominating the All Blacks in a famous victory in Tokyo.

Manu Tuilagi provided the perfect start for Eddie Jones’ men, scoring early after a break from Anthony Watson. Farrell converted, before a Ford drop goal gave them a 10-0 lead at half time.

A try in response from Ardie Savea was not enough to deny England victory who, captained by Farrell, reached an historic fourth Rugby World Cup final.

1000 International Points

During the Autumn Nations Series Final in 2020, Farrell became the sixth player to reach 1000 international points, joining Dan Carter, Jonny Wilkinson, Neil Jenkins, Ronan O’Gara and Diego Dominguez.

2000 socially distanced fans watched on as England hosted France at Twickenham in a tense affair which saw Eddie Jones’ men claim a 22-19 victory in extra time. France were leading 12-19 in the final moments, before Luke Cowan-Dickie stormed over and Farrell converted to tie the game.

It was Farrell’s boot that claimed victory for England in the 16th minute of extra time after France conceded a penalty in their own 22.
