Capenhurst Powered Up

A couple of seasons ago Capenhurst rugby club seemed to have little hope of survival.

Now they are opening their first real clubhouse thanks to a project with a local nuclear energy plant and some hard work over the Natwest Rugby Force weekend.

With the original pavilion unfit for use, a group of members and players sat down to plan a phoenix rise from the ashes and worked with Urenco who, said Capenhurst RUFC Chairman Chris Fay, “massively supported the club by helping with pitch fees and then completely refurbishing our pavilion to our very own design.”

With the handover of their new home later this month, said England Rugby Community Rugby Coach Simon Verbickas: “It’s great to see a local club which could easily have gone under overcome such challenges. We’ll be working with them to make sure the future remains bright.”
