England fans a little horse!

Anna Kessel, a third-year veterinary sciences student at Liverpool University, just knows her two miniature Shetland ponies love England’s rugby team.

So, with her mum Debbie away from home, she decided to give 15-year-old Joules and 14-year-old Galaxy a treat and, with the help of her friend Rory, who plays rugby and is at Bristol University, she took the ponies into her house in York to watch England beat Samoa. They enjoyed it so much that, on her return, Debbie allowed them to come back in all kitted up for the quarter-final against Fiji.

With Joe Marler their mane inspiration, they were sure of a whinny and, said Anna: “Although the game was slightly nail-biting at times, Galaxy and Joules thoroughly enjoyed it.  They don’t usually come in the house, but mum let them watch, although sadly didn’t agree to letting Dolly the horse in. However, we made sure to tell her the score! We have a rugby ball they like to play with, and I thought watching the matches might improve their skills. They can’t wait for the semis now - hooves crossed!”
