England U18 Women team to face Ireland

Head coach James Cooper has named a 24-player squad to face Ireland at the IRFU High Performance Centre on Sunday 3rd March.

The 70-minute fixture, which will be capped at U18 level, will take place at the home of the IRFU development in Blanchardstown, Dublin, on Sunday afternoon (12:00pm kick-off).

The selected group includes 19 previously-uncapped players at U18 level for this weekend’s trip, with 10 of the England Rugby Centre of Excellence sites and 17 colleges represented in the squad makeup.

England U18 Women last faced Ireland in the 2023 U18 Six Nations Festival, the second edition of the tournament, where Cooper’s side emerged 14-5 victors in the 35-minute encounter.

This season, the pathway side conducted their annual internal game at Warwick School last December, as well as a meeting with Loughborough University students as preparations for this year’s U18 Six Nations Festival continue this weekend.

Saturday’s trip to Ireland precedes this year’s Six Nations Rugby U18 Women’s Festival, with ties against the remaining five nations now confirmed in three match days (29 March, 2 and 6 April) at Stadiwm CSM, Colwyn Bay.

“An unbelievable amount of work has gone into the preparation for this fixture, and I’d like to thank the players, parents and fellow staff members for their commitment,” Cooper.

“We had a recent meeting at Wellington College where we brought together our Elite Player Squad once again after our camps in Nottingham, and we feel very confident in our abilities and the learnings we have taken from this season’s preparations. This weekend, we’re looking to be daring and challenge the squad’s skillsets ahead of the U18 Six Nations Festival.

“We’re excited to now put these into practice this weekend, Ireland are equipped with great talent and it will be great to measure our strengths against them away from home.”
