England winners at World Rugby Awards
England's men and women were among the winners at the World Rugby Awards in Monaco.
Abby Dow scooped up International Rugby Players Women’s Try of the Year for her effort in the Rugby World Cup semi final clash with Canada.
Camped on their five metre line, with Canadian phases into double digits, England showed monumental defensive spirit to deny a third try on the 50-minute mark. Regaining possession on their own line, the Red Roses spread the ball wide and cantered up the pitch - spearheaded by Claudia MacDonald - who linked up with Dow, before the wing showed blistering pace to run in unopposed.
WOMEN'S DREAM TEAM
Six Red Roses were named in World Rugby's Women's 15s Dream Team of the Year - four forwards and two backs.
The forwards: Sarah Bern, Abbie Ward, Alex Matthews and Marlie Packer were integral to England's success during the season, and throughout their 30 game winning streak - a feat that was acknowledged by Guinness World Records during half time of the England vs New Zealand game at Twickenham. Emily Scarratt and Dow were named in the Dream Team back line.
MEN'S DREAM TEAM
Two of England's men were named in World Rugby's Men’s 15s Dream Team of the Year. Prop Ellis Genge, who has become a cornerstone of England's scrum this year, and full back Freddie Steward - whose rapid rise to Test level has been remarkable.
Both played crucial roles in England's series win over the Wallabies Down Under last summer, and their form has continued through the Autumn Nations Series - Steward named Player of the Match against Japan, and scoring in the 25-all draw against New Zealand at Twickenham.
