Grassroots teams of February announced

February's grassroots teams of the month have been confirmed using Electronic Match Card data.

This season England Rugby is celebrating players and teams from across the leagues using Electronic Match Card data to bring statistics from the community game to life. 

Electronic Match Card allows everything from tries and points scored to best defensive performance and kick percentage records to be viewed for every team from level three to 12. Find out more here.

Player of the Month

Gavin Roberts - Caldy

Gavin Roberts has been leading Caldy's charge to the National 2 North title. He contributed 51 points across February with an impressive 81% kicking percentage, which takes him to 255 league points for the year, averaging just over ten points per game. Having started all but one of the clubs 24 games, Roberts will be a key component as the club look to not only secure the league title but go the season without losing a league game.

Level 3/4 - Caldy

National 2 North

Caldy have gone from strength to strength this season and currently sit top of the pile in National 2 North with a 100% record. February saw them dispatch of nearest rivals Fylde away, which enabled them to stretch their lead at the top to 29 points with just six games remaining. 

Caldy scored an impressive 32 tries in the month of February with Nick Royle leading the way with six. Player of the month for February Gavin Roberts contributed 51 points as well. Caldy will be looking to wrap up the league title in March when they visit Preston Grasshoppers for an immediate return to National One.

Level 5 - Brixham

South West Premier

February saw Brixham win all five fixtures, extending their winning run to six games. The impressive form sees the club sit sixth, just four points off second place, although a few teams above have games in hand due to the adverse weather conditions of the last few weeks. Brixham are in a strong position though, and will look to solidify their spot in the league and push on to challenge those at the top for the remainder of the season.

Level 6 - Royal Wootton Bassett

Wadworth South West 1 East

Four from four for Jonny May’s junior club as Royal Wootton Bassett have strengthened their second place in South West 1 East. A tight victory away to third place Banbury in the final fixture of February saw the gap widen at the top. With five games to go and a final game of the year visit to current league leaders Old Centralians, Bassett will be looking to keep the pressure on throughout March.

Level 7 - Leighton Buzzard

Midlands 2 East (South)

Four from four for Leighton Buzzard in February as they extended their lead at the top to 10 points as we approach the business end of the season, what made it more impressive was it was four away wins. The first week of March sees them host second place Leicester Forest which could either see the race for the title opened right up or see Buzzard with one hand on the trophy. They also have the small matter of an Intermediate final as they go in search of the double.

Level 8 - Ponteland RFC

Durham/Northumberland Division 2

No slip ups are paramount in the tightly contested Durham/Northumberland Division 2 as just four points separate the top three. That is exactly what Ponteland did in February recording four wins and maintaining the gap at the top at two points. March will see them visit second place Sunderland in a fixture that could go a long way to deciding who succeeds in promotion.

Level 9-12 - Clee Hill

Midlands 4 West (North)

Four from four for Clee Hill in February saw them extend their lead at the top to nine points with a game in hand. Just six games to go in the league and a divisional junior vase final as they also look to head to Twickenham and complete that league and vase double.

Women's Level 2-3 - Reading Abbey

WC South West 2

Reading Abbey Ladies maintained their 100% record this season with a flawless February and actually sealed the league title on 1st March with a comprehensive home victory over Newbury Ladies. They enter the final two league fixtures looking to finish unbeaten and plan ahead for life in the league above next season.

Women's Level 4-6- Harwich Owls

Women’s NC 1 East

Harwich Owls saw an impressive February winning both games (one a double header due to weather issues) which now sees them sit joint second on 46 points in the league but 13 points behind runaway leaders Hackney. They will be looking to finish the league strong and cement their position near the top of the league.
