Help Vickii Brave the Shave for Sam
Sam Cornborough, an outstanding rugby player who has always epitomised rugby’s values, began playing aged six at Portsmouth RFC before joining Harlequins and playing for England U19s. Her sister, Vickii, is an England prop with 75 caps and four Grand Slams, currently on maternity leave, having in July had twin daughters Elizabeth and Charlotte.
Sam and Vickii have always been close both as sisters and teammates. They have always supported each other and now, with Sam having been diagnosed with breast cancer, Vickii is determined to stand by Sam’s side, as the rugby community weighs in to help.
Says Vickii: “My wonderful sister Sam was diagnosed with breast cancer this summer. I've been absolutely amazed about how strong, resilient, caring and considerate Sam has been to everyone else, despite this being such a low and scary time dealing with the diagnosis, mastectomy surgery and heartbreakingly having to stop breastfeeding her baby Jackson. She really is a selfless super woman, and has taken everything in her stride so far.
“The next stage is for Sam to start her chemo treatment on 5th December, and with it unfortunately she will soon lose her hair. She's already had to endure so much by herself - so I will be standing by her side and will be Braving the Shave with her so she is not alone. “We both love our long locks, but have decided to take control and turn this into a positive by donating our long hair to The Little Princess Trust, to be made into children's wigs.”
A JustGiving fundraiser is supporting Rugby Against Cancer, The Little Princess Trust and Macmillan Cancer Support to help fund further research and says Vickii: “These organisations do so much to help those affected by cancer, and Sam is so thankful for all the support she's received so far. Please help me give back by raising vital funds and awareness.
“And please, please, please, check yourself regularly for lumps.”
