In a league of their own
A new women’s team was created last year at Huddersfield YMCA.
Now they have entered the Inner Warrior Series, recently hosting their first league game against Glossop Ladies.
An U13/U15 girls’ curtain raiser saw Littleborough and Rochdale joining to create two teams with better numbers. There were lots of parents supporting on the touchline, and coaches got together to change things up at half time. Core values were on display together with lots of smiles from players enjoying their rugby.
The senior women’s game involved brand new players recently recruited through hotspot work, two U18s played their first senior game and girls section players in support on the touchline were watching the referee’s game too.
Said RFU Community Rugby Coach, Clarissa Murphy; “This was an awesome day for the women and girls section at the club, and it was great to see so many new players from different clubs enjoying their rugby, together.
“The club have put a lot of time into the women’s and girls’ section over the past 12 months with support from schools and professional staff, so it was great to see that rewarded with such a memorable day.”
