Long Eaton RFC's world record attempt

Long Eaton RFC is a growing club and intending to grow to world record numbers when they attempt to get 1000 people to a training session attended by England Head Coach, Eddie Jones, on Sunday 19th September.

The current Guinness World Record for a single training session stands at 720 at training in Japan and Long Eaton are looking to swell their 500+ playing numbers with family members, friends and players from Wasps, Leicester Tigers and Nottingham.

Back in 2012, the club had 22 players, one coach and a small overdraft but after Chris Brookes, their current chair and development manager, and a group of other former players swung into action they turned their fortunes around.

“Things weren’t looking good so there was a meeting and a group of former players got involved," said Chris, who is also RFU Council member for Notts, Lincs and Derby.

"We have worked with local schools in creating a pathway and helped to make the club a real community asset. We already host the local running club, Park Run, triathlon, netball and fitness and personal training sessions and want to do more.

“We now have three men’s teams, occasional Vets, a ladies’ team and girls’ teams at U13, U15 and U18 and thriving Colts, youth and minis. We have outgrown our current clubhouse and are planning an extension next spring.

“The record attempt is involving everyone massively. We’ve got a fundraising team and are hoping to get RFU referees involved. Having Eddie and club players supporting us is fantastic.

“One of our First XV back rows, Jack Collister, who was formerly at Hoylake, took part in their Guinness touch record attempt, so we hope he will be a double world record holder in September.”

There will be a donations link on the day with money raised going to the club extension work and they hope the entire rugby family will turn up at West Park.
