Long & short of it for Walsall’s Ben
Ben Carey from Walsall RFC’s U11s had a lockdown project to grow his hair, and grow it he did!
However, Ben wasn’t doing this just for the fun of it, he planned to donate his hair to a cancer charity who make specialist wigs for children, while hoping to raise some money for the Little Princess Trust for Children with Cancer.
When Ben told his parents, he said: “I’m sure ginger people have cancer too and because there’s not many of us I want to donate mine.”
The trust is a local Midlands charity and Ben wanted to raise £100 via rugby, school and family. This month (May) Ben had his hair cut by one of Walsall’s own mini and junior coaches Ross Warwood. Family and team mates watched, whilst socially distanced.
With the support of his family, the wider rugby family, friends and well wishers Ben has smashed his original target and the total was £1,000 at the last count.
All who know and have supported Ben are extremely proud of his efforts. He and his family have been completely overwhelmed by the support and wanted to say a massive thank you for all the encouragement and donations to help such a great cause.
