Grassroots Volunteer Recruitment Programme

Grassroots rugby relies on volunteers with clubs, Constituent Bodies and Referee Societies on the lookout for more people.

Last season the RFU launched its Volunteer Recruitment Programme and those who applied being successful gained an average of 16 more volunteers. With over 150 successful, why not apply for this season’s grants and resources?

Grants of £500 allowed clubs to run recruitment evenings, targeted social media drives, and to bring groups of volunteers together to complete essential work. The programme also provides a range of useful resources to recruit volunteers and manage volunteer roles with online learning modules and guidance.

Thirsk RFC now has a more focused approach to volunteering, saying: “This Fund focuses you on volunteering and taking the club forward and making sure you’ve got the right roles in the right places.”

Thanet RFC were delighted with what they managed thanks to support from the Programme saying: “It really can be a steep change for your club… there is less work to do, we can delegate more easily and volunteers feel more appreciated and valued. It has allowed people to focus on one or two things, and so things are getting done and we are able to progress."

The Programme aims to help:

  • Create new opportunities to recruit volunteers
  • Raise awareness of volunteer opportunities among new audiences
  • Embed volunteer management in clubs’ working practices.

There’s a general misconception among the public when it comes to who runs their rugby clubs. Research has shown a fifth simply hadn’t volunteered because they hadn’t been asked.

Now the Volunteer Recruitment Programme is available to ensure potential volunteers are recruited to join the amazing volunteers running the game nationwide.

Clubs from National League 1 & below, Constituent Bodies, and Referee Societies can apply to the Volunteer Recruitment Programme which can support up to 130 organisations this season.

Don’t miss out – apply before 5pm Friday 24 November 2023
