Sky-High Power for Guernsey Raiders

Guernsey Raiders decided that they needed an entrepreneurial solution for their travel costs.

Working with the RFU and the other clubs in their men’s and women’s leagues, they switched to Guernsey's airline Aurigny, who came up with a great offer given the extra business achieved.

And now thanks to this new travel agreement, one of Aurigny’s new ATR planes, fitted with  fog-busting technology, will bear the Raiders’ logo and the real icing on the cake sees it captained by  Fiona Power who plays for the Raiders Ladies team.

Says Fiona: ““I have been with Aurigny for two years and love flying the ATR aircraft, especially our new ones. As a player for Guernsey Raiders Ladies, I am particularly excited about this plane. To be able to fly on an aircraft named after our rugby team is going to be really special but to captain the aircraft honouring the team I play for will be a real privilege.”

Raiders Chairman Charles McHugh adds: “Fiona flew the plane with the team on board heading for our recent fixture against Tunbridge Wells.  It was fantastic and we landed very smoothly at Gatwick. Then we put in a great performance in a really close match and gained a bonus point by wining  33 – 30.

“It makes a great deal of sense for us to fly with our local airline Aurigny and I was keen to have their new plane registered as GO-RAID but as that was taken it had to be  G-ORAI.  With this very technical solution on board we won’t get fog bound either and our new financial arrangement benefits everyone, including visiting teams and our minis and juniors.”

This certainly seems a win-win situation, with both Guernsey’s men and women adoing well, the men in Level 5 (London & South East Premier) Level 4, and the women in National Challenge South East South 1.
