Tribute to Douglas Baker

England Rugby has paid tribute to former England and Lions player, Douglas Baker, who has died in Australia aged 93.

Educated at Merchant Taylors School and Oxford University, where he gained Blues in 1951 and 1952, Doug played for his school's old boys club, Old Merchant Taylors' FC.

In 1953/54 he played against New Zealand for both London Counties and South-Eastern Counties and played for the Barbarians eight times.

His England debut was against Wales in January 1955 and he was capped four times for England as a fly half that year.

He also took part in the 1955 Lions tour to South Africa, playing in two Tests as a full back, firstly against South Africa at Pretoria where he scored a penalty earning three points for the victorious Lions. His second was against South Africa at Port Elizabeth. He was also part of the team who played the East Africa Rugby Union team as the Lions returned home.

Douglas can be seen in the team below, sat on the floor on the left hand side of the image.
