England U20 Women training squad announced
Head coach LJ Lewis and assistant coach Sarah McKenna have named their first England U20 Women’s training squad of the 2024/25 season.
The 32 players will assemble at Bisham Abbey National Sports Centre next Monday (20th) for a three-day camp following the conclusion of Round 14 of Premiership Women’s Rugby (PWR).
Eleven of the cohort have previous caps at U20 level for England: Joia Bennett and Amelia MacDougall (both Saracens), Lucy Calladine, Carmela Morrall and Amelia Williams (all Loughborough Lightning), Ella Cromack and Tyla Shirley of Harlequins, Millie David (Bristol Bears), Sale Sharks’ Sophie Hopkins and Amelia Hyndman, and Millie Hyett of Gloucester-Hartpury.
28 of the 32 selected players have previous caps for England in the Women’s Pathway, with 20 squad members accumulating 112 PWR appearances this season alone.
The U20 Women’s squad will reconvene at Loughborough University next month for a four-day camp held between 3-6 February. Upcoming fixtures for England U20 Women will be communicated in due course.
LJ Lewis said: “We’re delighted to confirm the first squad of the season after some time away from action in camp. Selection has been a diligent and challenging process, and I want to congratulate all involved this week.
“The performances of the included players for their clubs have been incredibly encouraging and all the staff are eager to get involved with a very promising group. The training camps scheduled in the coming months are designed to reward that form and to take a step into international rugby for these young players.
“From Monday and through to the summer, our expectations will remain at the very top standard as we look to elevate our processes with intensity, mindset and bonding as a unit.”
