Kevin Sinfield returns with fundraising challenge for MND
Kevin Sinfield is once again undertaking a huge physical challenge to raise money for Motor Neurone Disease (MND) charities.
Since his great friend and former Leeds Rhinos teammate Rob Burrow was diagnosed with MND, the England Senior Men skills coach has raised almost £10m for charity.
Burrow died in June 2024, but continues to inspire Sinfield, who will be running more than 31 miles (50km) every day for a week in his latest challenge, which starts on Sunday 1st December and ends on Saturday 7th.
This year’s ‘running home for Christmas’ challenge will see Sinfield start in Liverpool and visit seven regions of the UK in homage to the number seven that Burrow wore as a player.
While Sinfield will be passing through cities and towns across the country, his final leg will see him quite literally running home for Christmas, as he runs from Manchester to his home area of Saddleworth.
In total he will be running in excess of 217 miles (350km) and hopes to raise £777,777, of which he has already raised more than £200,000.
The money raised will go to six MND charities: Motor Neurone Disease Association, Leeds Hospitals Charity, Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association, My Name'5 Doddie Foundation, MND Scotland and The Darby Rimmer MND Foundation.
Sinfield is no stranger to grueling physical challenges and first started raising money in 2020 when he ran seven marathons in seven days.
Since then, he has completed a challenge every year to raise funds to support those with MND, as well as research the disease.
