Kevin Sinfield returns with fundraising challenge for MND
Kevin Sinfield has completed his 230-mile running challenge to raise money for Motor Neurone Disease (MND) charities.
Sinfield raised more than £1m for MND charities with his most recent challenge, having initially aimed to raise £777,777 by running an ultra marathon a day over the course of one week.
Since his great friend and former Leeds Rhinos teammate Rob Burrow was diagnosed with MND, the England Senior Men skills coach has raised more than £11m for charity.
Burrow died in June 2024, but continues to inspire Sinfield, who ran more than 31 miles (50km) every day for a week in his latest challenge, which he began on Sunday 1st December and completed on Saturday 7th.
This year’s ‘running home for Christmas’ challenge saw Sinfield start in Liverpool and visit seven regions of the UK in homage to the number seven that Burrow wore as a player.
While Sinfield passed through cities and towns across the country, his final leg saw him quite literally running home for Christmas, as he ran from Manchester to his home area of Saddleworth.
In total he ran 230 miles (379km) and was joined by people along the route, including England Men's head coach Steve Borthwick from Northampton to Leicester.
The money raised will go to six MND charities: Motor Neurone Disease Association, Leeds Hospitals Charity, Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association, My Name'5 Doddie Foundation, MND Scotland and The Darby Rimmer MND Foundation.
Sinfield is no stranger to grueling physical challenges and first started raising money in 2020 when he ran seven marathons in seven days.
Since then, he has completed a challenge every year to raise funds to support those with MND, as well as research the disease.
