Nestlé Rowntree undefeated in their club’s 130th anniversary
Nestlé Rowntree RUFC, based in York, are having a season to remember as they remain undefeated in Counties 4 Yorkshire North.
With 12 wins from 12, the club sits proudly at the top of their league during their milestone 130th season.
Originally founded in 1894 by Rowntree’s chocolate and confectionery company as Rowntree Employees Football Club, the club has a rich history in the York community.
Now known as Nestlé Rowntree RUFC, the club rejoined the RFU leagues in 2018 after a period in merit leagues and now boasts a squad of over 60 players.
Their recent success is a culmination of three years of hard work to engage and retain their players.
Chairman Ryan Roodt said: “I’m extremely proud of what the players and coaching team have accomplished. To remain undefeated is a phenomenal achievement and a testament to their hard work and commitment.
“I’d also like to thank our legacy players who continue to support the club and remind us of our heritage. A lot of what happens in the background that goes unseen has enabled our beloved club to continue thriving as we celebrate our 130th-anniversary milestone.”
The club is celebrating their historic season in style, with a series of events planned and a new special-edition kit for this season. The commemorative jersey combines nods to past kits and features the York skyline.
The team has also booked their place in next year’s Yorkshire Vase final—a competition they narrowly missed winning last year.
Roodt added: “For us, enjoyment is central to everything we do. The players work hard, but we make sure they have fun along the way. Looking ahead, we’re excited to continue building on this season’s success and growing our club.”
Nestlé Rowntree RUFC’s strong performances this season are a fitting tribute to their 130-year legacy, as they aim to keep pushing forward both on and off the pitch.
