Pancake Day recipes with England Rugby's Tommy Freeman
Enjoy a Shrove Tuesday treat with these pancake recipes, as shown by England wing, Tommy Freeman. Choose between chocolate & banana protein pancakes, or opt for the more traditional lemon & sugar crepes.
Chocolate & banana protein pancakes
Ingredients (makes 10):
- 50ml Milk
- 150g self-raising flour
- 25g butter
- 3 eggs
- 22g chocolate whey powder
- 1.5 tsp baking powder
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 2 bananas
Recipe:
- Mix all the ingredients together until smooth.
- Heat some oil in a frying pan and add a ladle-worth of batter.
- Cook for a couple of minutes before flipping the pancake. Cook on the other side for around one minute until fully cooked.
- Serve with fruit, yoghurt and seeds

Lemon & sugar crepes
Ingredients (makes 10):
- 300ml milk
- 100g flour
- 2 eggs
- Honey
- Lemon
Recipe:
- Mix the milk, flour and eggs together to make a smooth batter. You can leave it to stand for a few minutes or get started straight away.
- Heat a frying pan and add a little oil, wiping the excess with kitchen roll.
- Add a ladle-worth of batter and tilt the pan to spread the batter as thinly as possible.
- Once the edges start to peel away from the sides, lift to see if it is cooked underneath. If it is, flip the pancake and cook the other side until cooked through.
- Serve with a drizzle of honey and lemon juice.
