Director of Rugby Adam Fletcher said: “What an unbelievable month. The hard work the lads put in this summer has paid off. The wins against Chester and Fylde are some of the best I’ve been involved in and the try we scored just before halftime at Chester epitomises everything we’re trying to achieve.”

“The squad have come into this season in prime fitness, thanks to our Head of Strength and Conditioning Will Taylor, and I’m delighted with the first block of games. I am excited now for the next couple of blocks and the remainder of the season ahead.”

“We have gone from strength to strength and now we have two women’s teams competing in NC3 and NC2, which is a great testament to the work put in by all the players and the management.

“I am personally really proud of this squad. They have achieved so much in a short period of time and to be voted of team of the month is reward for all the effort put in by so many."

“We’re a community-run club, always working to attract new players and ensure the values of rugby continue for years to come.

“This is optimised by Jack Weare who recently started his 300th 1st XV start for the club, having started as a mini & junior in 1995, playing for the 1st XV as a 17 year old and has captained the first team for numerous years.  This is why players are proud to play for the wonderful rugby club that we are.”

“It’s been very pleasing to start the year playing an exciting brand of rugby in the first month of the season and we can’t wait to challenge ourselves further in the weeks and months ahead.”

Torquay Athletic

Men’s Level 8

Counties 2 Tribute Devon: P4 W4

  • 7 – 45 v Exmouth II
  • 87 – 0 v South Molton
  • 0 – 61 v Dartmouth
  • 81 – 24 v Topsham II

Head Coach Dan Williams said: “We are happy with how we have started the season: 4 wins from 4 and a bonus point in each. I’m really proud of the lads and it's great for the squad to get this fully deserved recognition; they work incredibly hard week in week out and that shows in their performances through the month.

“Our attack has been a real strong point, but the most pleasing thing is that we have real. We are scoring tries out wide, in tight, from our half and from 5m out. When we talk about our attack, we talk about trying to use the whole pitch and make sure we stretch the opposition's defence out as much as possible to create opportunities for ourselves.

“In the club's 150th year we want to try and have a special season and September has been a great start to what we hope will be a successful one.”

Avonmouth Old Boys

Men’s Levels 9 to 12

Counties 3 Tribute Gloucestershire South: P4 W4

  • 15 – 32 v Whitehall
  • 27 – 12 v Ashley Down Old Boys
  • 12 – 53 v Clifton III
  • 17 – 81 v Old Bristolians II

Ryan Templar, forwards coach, said: “Our strong start to the season is down to the dedication of the players at training. We now have huge competition for places across all our men’s teams which has brought out the best in players.

“The club is flourishing again, not only with the results on the pitch. It’s a joy to see and the feeling and buzz around the club is electric.”

Club Chairman Grant Britton said: “Our men’s section has had one of the best starts to a season in over 6 years but we’re certainly not counting our chickens yet: there’s some stiff competition in the leagues.

“With three senior men’s sides now running out and our ladies’ section also starting strongly, it’s set to be a great season.”
