Claudia Macdonald
Claudia Macdonald has enjoyed a meteoric rise through the rugby ranks since first picking up a ball aged 19. She captained Durham University in 2017/18, joining Tyrrells Premier 15s side Darlington Mowden Park Sharks to make her debut in September 2017. Having moved to Wasps FC Ladies for the 2018/19 season, she was awarded an England EPS agreement in January 2019. She came off the bench in all three of England’s 2018 Quilter Internationals as well as against Wales in the 2019 Women’s Six Nations. Her impressive performances earned a full-time England contract for the 2019/20 season. She missed out on the 2022 Six Nations through injury, making her return for the World Cup later that year. Claudia was named in Simon Middleton’s squad for the 2023 TikTok Women’s Six Nations and retained her spot for the inaugural WXV tournament in New Zealand later that year.

The scrum half, or number 9, links forwards and backs, taking the ball from the scrum or lineout, and putting pressure on the opposition nine. With a kicking armoury, man management and decision skills, the nine knows when to make breaks or to pass.
