Rugby Club Administration and Legal Process

Getting the administrative side of your community rugby club right is an important part of ensuring success on the pitch.

If the behind-the-scenes requirements are managed effectively, attention and energy can rightly be focussed on the field of play.

An appropriately sized and properly functioning club committee is a key element of making thorough and representative decisions which benefit all sections of the club.

The RFU wants to ensure clubs comply with all necessary obligations, such as data protection and employment law; and protect their committee members and volunteers by incorporating the club either as a Company Ltd By Guarantee or Co-operative; and look to maximise their income potential by becoming a community amateur sports club.

The RFU has arranged helplines through its partner Irwin Mitchell for clubs to obtain free advice on any legal or tax related matter, as well as online support for the creation of standard employment agreements and legal documents.

Irwin Mitchell can help you understand your current lease and identify any pitfalls it may have. Whether you want to continue your operations as they are or are looking to improve your club, knowing what your lease allows and restricts is key. They have developed, exclusively for rugby clubs, a fixed-fee lease review, with savings of up to 30% off normal legal fees, to help you understand your current lease.

Standard Review – a basic overview of the key terms of your lease (£275 + VAT and disbursements; inclusive of a £75 deposit)

Premium Review – an in-depth review of your lease including whether your lease allows you to achieve your short-term, medium-term and long-term goals (£550 + VAT and disbursements; inclusive of a £150 deposit)
