A Special General Meeting (SGM) of the Rugby Football Union will be held at Allianz Stadium, Twickenham on Thursday 27 March 2025 at 5pm.
As with previous annual general meetings, the meeting will be held on a hybrid basis, so members can attend either in person or online.
The meeting will vote on two resolutions. Resolution 1, requested by the Rugby Football Referees Union on behalf of a number of members of the RFU, and Resolution 2, instigated by the RFU Board relating to the ongoing Governance and Representation Review:
- It is resolved that the members have no confidence in the CEO (Mr Bill Sweeney) and call upon the RFU Board of Directors to terminate his employment at the RFU as soon as practicably possible.
- Members believe the Governance and Representation Review should be expedited and this should include formal consultation with the wider game. Proposals (including to address feedback from the roadshows) should be shared before the RFU’s AGM and members are to be further consulted on actions later in the year.
Member Clubs, Referee Societies, Constituent Bodies and National Representative Bodies are able to send a delegate, such as an official of the club, to attend to vote, or they can appoint someone else, such as the Chair of the meeting, and vote on their behalf.
Full details are provided in the Calling Notice sent to all voting members on 24 January 2025, and in the 2025 SGM Supporting Documents below.
