Jonathan Dance outstanding servant of the game
The RFU has paid tribute to Jonathan Dance, an outstanding administrator and passionate supporter of the game over many years. Jonathan died on Thursday January 18th, having been in great spirits at his club, Bracknell, the weekend before.
An exceptional administrator, Jon served his club, CB and the RFU with huge dedication. He was President of Bracknell RFC, represented Berkshire on the RFU Council from 1994 to 2013 and became RFU President for the 2014/15 season.
He served on the RFU Board for 11 years, was FIRA Executive Committee representative, and IRB and Six Nations representative for five years. Additionally, Jon chaired both the Finance and Competition Committees with distinction.
RFU President, Rob Briers said: “Jon was invaluable and a great servant of Bracknell, Berkshire, the South West Leagues and the RFU. A solicitor by profession, he was the font of all knowledge on competition matters and meticulous on finance. He covered so much work for the game entirely as a volunteer and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.”
RFU CEO, Bill Sweeney, added: “Jon was a source of support and sage advice to many, including myself. This is a sad loss of a great character and contributor to the game.”
