Champions Crowned in Continental Tyres Schools Cup U18 Plate and Bowl Finals

Day two of the RFU Continental Tyres Schools Finals saw more of the best schoolboy sides in the country go head-to-head in pursuit of national glory.

Hayes School claim first-ever national rugby trophy

Hayes School 51-26 The King's School, Ely

Hayes School wrote their name into the record books claiming their first-ever national rugby trophy with a superb 51-26 defeat of The King's School, Ely in the U18 Bowl final.

King's School took the lead when right wing Jack Hammond outfoxed Hayes' pack off the back of a ruck to find Rory Brech, the full-back racing away to dot down under the sticks.

Hayes quickly responded however, working the ball blind-side for scrum-half Jack Allen to go over for his side's first score before taking the lead through outside centre Peter Towers after another well-worked passage of play, fly-half William Lawes slotting the extras.

Jackson Burgess extended Hayes' lead when lock Louis Hawkes powered forward before offloading to the left wing for the simple finish, with King's School captain Jack Jeremy answering back with a score of his own after charging down Allen's kick.

Hayes duo Shaye Barber-Murray and Harry McNamara widened the gap, only for William Lott to dive under the sticks to cut the deficit.

Hawkes then got himself on the scoresheet before King's School fly-half Ted Hall answered back, yet that would be as good as it got for the Cambridgeshire-based school, with Hayes' Joshua Ebohan scoring the last try of the game to end the contest.

Dauntsey's School lift U18 Plate after dominant win

Dauntsey's School 55-35 St. Anselm's College

Dauntsey's bruised their way into the lead after just five minutes, lock Ben Smart battling his way over the line following a lineout before a Henry Taylor penalty and a score from left wing Kian Brightmore-Crook extended their advantage.

St. Anselm's answered back when loosehead prop Patrick Jones spun away from his man to get himself over the line, only for a powerful rolling maul and a score from tighthead Scott Pickford to see the Wilshire school reassert their authority over proceedings.

The restart saw Dauntsey's Ashton Thatcher further widen the margin when he raced clear to dot down before vice-captain Alfie Shears added to his side's tally.

That seemed to rouse St. Anselm’s, with hooker Daniel Peers and Irish U18 international Alex Kerr touching down before Dauntsey's Finn Morton walked in the easy try.

Undeterred, St. Anselm's battled away and clinched their fourth score of the game with a thunderous rolling maul of their own, yet any thoughts of a rousing reversal were put to bed when Pickford clinched his second score of the game, Leo Grist-Cort's late try with the last action of the game scant consolation.
